How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

3. Fuel Pump
